Harlem is… THE GOSPEL TRADITION

Our harlem is… The Gospel Tradition: The Spirit of the Community exhibition tells the stories of four churches at the forefront of the migration of African-Americans from Downtown to Harlem and honors faith leaders who have had a significant impact on the Harlem community, their congregations and the voices of youth. Through histories, contemporary portraits by renowned documentary photographer Ruth Morgan, archival photographs from the Schomburg Collection, and more, this exhibition examines the influential contributions of faith while encouraging a deeper understanding of Harlem’s rich spiritual heritage, including this video.
